Friday Devotion - Written by Grace

One of my favorite Bible stories has always been Jesus walking on water,
but probably not for the reason most of you think.   While obviously
walking on water is a super cool miracle, I actually prefer the part when
Jesus stops walking on water.

Jesus was walking across the water, when he stopped to help his struggling
disciples caught in a storm and said, “Take heart it is I; do not be
afraid.”  Then he got into the boat with them and the wind ceased. And they
were utterly astounded” Mark 6:50-52.  There are two parts of this story
that stand out to me.

First, the disciples aren’t alone in the storm; together they observe a
miracle while struggling through a storm.  We aren’t alone in our storms
and miracles either.  We’re blessed with an amazing community of people who
want to get in our boats and navigate storms, while also celebrating joys
and miracles.

Second, Jesus could have just continued on performing a miracle, but
instead he stopped everything and went to his struggling disciples.  We
should always remember that while Jesus does perform big miracles, he also
takes the time to notice our struggles, big and small, and come to us in
our time of need.  With Jesus in our boat, our storms should never become
too much to handle, and that’s utterly astounding!

Overall, I love this story because I can see my life in it.  Sometimes I
feel lost in a storm, but it’s ok because I’m blessed with an astounding
community and Jesus is always doing amazing things and supporting me.  I
hope you can see that too!
