I am sure this verse could be dismissed as an exercise in circular reasoning. And among those who read these offerings are some (for whom I am thankful, even if sometimes at a loss as to how to respond) who will point out that the verse speaks of some being left out.
Setting aside the inability of a single verse to say all that we would want to say about our interaction with God, my prayers this morning invited me to explore my ability to hear "the words of God."
Can you hear them?
Do you hear them?
The appointed Psalm for this Sunday (Psalm 80) has God asking, "What more could I have done?" What more does God need to do, for us (you and me) to hear God's words and be "of God"?
This is not an accusation nor a condemnation. Rather it is an invitation to explore your self-identity and to examine that which you do hear. I have come to believe that God has done all that God can do. I have come to think that the reception of God's word is where the breakdown occurs.
Listen. Hear. Live as one is of God.
